Brasilia, May 27 (RHC)-- The second and last day of the 50th session of the Permanent Peoples' Tribunal, which heard accusations against Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for crimes against humanity, has closed with shouts of "Out with Bolsonaro."
In the eight-hour trial, nine witnesses were heard at the Law School of the University of Sao Paulo by 12 jurors of seven different nationalities.
A hearing took place simultaneously in Rome, where the court's headquarters is located, with symbolic and reputational impact, by issuing verdicts without imposing sanctions.
The complaint received by the court was drafted more than six months ago by the Arns Commission (For the Defense of Human Rights Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns), the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil - APIB, the Black Coalition for Rights and Public Services International.
The accusatory document was entitled "Pandemic and Authoritarianism: Responsibilities of the Bolsonaro government for the systematic violations of the fundamental rights of Brazilian peoples perpetrated through the policies adopted in the COVID-19 pandemic."
