Bogota, July 21 (Xinhua-RHC) -- One child was killed and four others were wounded in an attack staged by unidentified persons on a police station in northeastern Colombia on Saturday night.
In the attack, the suspects threw a grenade from a motorcycle at the police station located in the Fundadores neighborhood, resulting in the death of a three-year-old girl, who was walking by with her parents. Her parents and two police officers were wounded, police in the city of Arauca said.
Colombia's Ombudsman's Office condemned the attack in a statement saying "the Ombudsman urged illegal armed groups to respect human rights and international humanitarian law, cease indiscriminate attacks and exclude civilians from conflict, particularly children and adolescents."
The Ombudsman's Office also requested competent authorities to advance further investigation to determine those responsible for the attack and strengthen intelligence work to prevent these attacks that directly affect civilians.
Neither the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) nor the National Liberation Army (ELN), the two insurgency groups in Colombia, have claimed responsibility for this attack.
