Summit of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States

Luanda, December 10 (RHC)-- The Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (Oeacp) condemns the use of unilateral and coercive measures, including illegal sanctions, against certain developing countries, said the 10th Summit held in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

The statement is contained in the Luanda Declaration, which summarizes the common position of the 79 member countries of the bloc, whose meeting of Heads of State and Government ended Friday night.

The text warns of the existence of illegal sanctions aimed at preventing certain nations from exercising their right to determine their own political, economic and social system.

In this sense, the Oeacp rejected the increasing application of unilateral and extraterritorial laws and measures contrary to international law.

As a concrete example, it pointed out the Helms Burton Act in the case of Cuba (this is the legislation that codifies the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the US government against the Caribbean nation).

Together with the repudiation of the aggressions, the organization reaffirmed "its solidarity with the governments and peoples of these member states", the document summarizes.

The Luanda Declaration sets out the Oeacp's positions on various issues, including threats to peace and security, South-South and triangular cooperation, and the challenges facing the global crises in the economic, food, energy and climate spheres.

According to the document, the member states will celebrate the transformation of the group into an international organization, with a growing membership representing a combined population of 1.1 billion people.

They reaffirmed their pride in the uniqueness and numerical and demographic strength of the Oeacp, covering three continents, three oceans, with a rich social, economic and cultural diversity.

They also praised the fact that they are "politically and genuinely committed" to development and cooperation, in the interest of fostering resilient societies and sustainable economies.

The eradication of poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, remains the main challenge and the necessary condition for sustainable development, reaffirmed the 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Oeacp.
