Lima, January 14 (RHC)-- In Peru, the Regional Government of Ayacucho has unanimously approved the issuance of a statement rejecting the government of the appointed president Dina Boluarte when almost 50 deaths are reported in the protests initiated after the dismissal of Pedro Castillo last December and violently repressed by the Peruvian State.
The 17 members of the regional administration voted in favor of the decision which also rejects the high military commanders for the violent repression against the demonstrators. The document expresses solidarity with the relatives of the murdered and missing people while highlighting the peaceful nature of the protests that have taken place in Ayacucho territory.
Likewise, the officials demanded the resignation of the head of state and of the Congress' board of directors with the objective of implementing a transitional government that would call for urgent elections.
For her part, the president of the People's Defense Front of Ayacucho, Rocio Leandro, denounced, before being arrested, the persecution of social leaders by the Peruvian right wing. The leader pointed out that the front does not have "any party behind it" beyond the popular unity, but that the demand for a new Magna Carta has worked organically.
Leandro stressed that the persecution to "shut us up and slow us down, especially to the struggles of our peoples, brings with it these reactions" when referring to the support received by hundreds of people who gathered in front of the police station to demand the release of the detainees.
Protests against Boluarte's administration broke out last December 7, after the Congress dismissed former president Pedro Castillo. At least 48 deaths and hundreds of wounded have been reported.
