Ecuador's National Assembly has approved -- with 104 votes in favor, 18 votes against and 3 abstentions -- the report of the Commission that investigated the case "El Gran Padrino," which recommends impeachment against President Guillermo Lasso.

Quito, March 5 (RHC)-- Ecuador's National Assembly has approved -- with 104 votes in favor, 18 votes against and 3 abstentions -- the report of the Commission that investigated the case "El Gran Padrino," which recommends impeachment against President Guillermo Lasso.

Four political forces voted in favor of the report presented: Union for Hope, Social Christian Party, Packakutik and Democratic Left.   The Commission investigated the existence of a corruption network around public companies and links with the Albanian mafia, within the framework of the case "El Gran Padrino," later called "Encuentro."

The group of deputies pointed out that the chain of command reached up to President Lasso, so they warned that in this case there was influence peddling and therefore Ecuador became a narco-state.

The president of the Multiparty Commission, Viviana Veloz, moved for the approval of the report and for 50 minutes argued the grounds for which President Lasso would have committed crimes against public administration in the degree of omission for the alleged corruption scheme.

The heads of the PSC and PK blocs, Esteban Torres and Salvador Quishpe showed their support to the Commission's report.

From this point on, one of the opposition blocs will be in charge of requesting the impeachment.  However, in recent days, the Pachakutik bench indicated that they will be the first to propose the appeal.
