Argentine President Alberto Fernández

Santo Domingo, Mar 26 (RHC) Argentine President Alberto Fernández advocated today in the Dominican Republic to strengthen regional integration to preserve common interests, seek social justice, and end blockades imposed on Cuba and Venezuela.

When speaking at the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, the president highlighted the need to re-establish a unity that would prevent economic sieges from continuing and contribute to respecting ideological diversity in strong democracies where human rights are guaranteed.

Our America, in the years in which Donald Trump ruled the United States (2017-2021), suffered a tremendous process of disintegration. The Union of South American Nations faded as its members disassociated themselves due to mandates imposed by Washington.

The Organization of American States remained at the service of this disintegrating objective, validating a coup d’état in Bolivia, said the president.

In a time as difficult as the one we are going through, marked by social discontent in which hate speech finds an echo, we are morally obliged to join forces. We are all passengers in the same boat and we have a common destiny that summons us. No one is saved alone, he added.

Fernández asserted that the strengthening of the regional blocks is essential to achieve social equity and consolidate societies that protect everyone and do not promote the culture of discarding.

In addition, he highlighted the importance of the Common Market of the South, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, and summits of this type to thinking about solutions to current challenges from multilateralism and exchange experiences.

We must work to deepen the ties between all integration spaces in a framework that preserves the institutions and respect rights. There is no solution in isolation, he affirmed.

On the other hand, he thanked the support for Argentina’s request that the United Kingdom agree to resume negotiations on the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands, by the resolutions of the United Nations Organization and other international forums.

Consolidating the region and stopping connection through individuality will make us stronger. When in my country we celebrate 40 years of uninterrupted democracy, let’s not open the doors to detractors of the Rule of Law who exude hate from their mouths to discourage our people, concluded Fernández.
