Director of Teodoro Maldonado hospital was murdered
Havana, March 29 (RHC) The murder of Nathaly López, director of the Teodoro Maldonado hospital in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, reaffirms the levels of violence and insecurity the Andean country is going through.
The event occurred last night, when the official of the health institution, belonging to the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS), was intercepted by two men aboard a motorcycle, who shot at her while she was driving her vehicle.
The IESS expressed its rejection of this violent act that caused fear among the population of that Ecuadorian coastal city.
The National Police revealed that the investigations of the case are still being carried out to find those responsible and to know the motive for the murder.
After the murder of 35-year-old López, who also worked as a university professor, at least four senior officials from the Teodoro Maldonado Hospital submitted their resignations.
Local media assure that the activities in that health center are carried out normally this Wednesday. However, among the collaborators of the sanatorium, one of the largest in the city, there was concern and tension.
A survey recently published by the Citizen Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice of Mexico, ranked Guayaquil as one of the 50 most violent cities in the world. According to the document, Guayaquil occupies the 24th place, thus climbing with respect to the 2021 edition of that same ranking, where it was in 50th place with 1,537 homicides and a total of 3.2 million inhabitants.
Experts and citizens demand that the Government of Guillermo Lasso implement comprehensive public policies to curb violence and insecurity.
One of the biggest concerns of the population of Guayaquil and Ecuador is the increase in violence in the country. (Source: Prensa Latina)
