Iran and Saudi Arabia advance in opening their embassies

Havana, April 9 (RHC) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced today that two Iranian delegations will visit Saudi Arabia before Friday with a view to reopening their diplomatic missions, in compliance with the tripartite agreement.

The separate delegations will travel to Riyadh and Jeddah, before the reopening of the Iranian embassy and consulate, respectively, the senior official explained.

The announcement comes after the visit to Tehran of a Saudi delegation, after a historic meeting between the foreign ministers of both Gulf countries in China, where a joint agreement between Saudi Arabia, Iran and China was signed.

The foreign ministers signed a declaration at the end of their talks in Beijing, and stipulated the start of arrangements to reopen embassies and consulates in order to expand relations and bilateral cooperation.

The Saudi diplomatic headquarters will be located in Tehran, and the consulate in the city of Mashhad, capital of the Khorasan Razavíla province.

Both nations announced on March 10 the pact to resume dialogue and diplomatic relations, and proposed to reopen their respective embassies within two months, in response to an initiative by Chinese President Xi Jinping. (Source: Prensa Latina)
