President Andrés Manuel López Obrador denounces the US press for attacks on Mexico

Havana, Apr 12 (RHC) - President Andrés Manuel López Obrador this Wednesday once again denounced the attacks by the United States press on Mexico, citing the Washington Post, New York Times and other newspapers.

He stated that people should be made aware of how the information media do not communicate, do not inform, but rather manipulate…not only in Mexico but everywhere. In the case of the United States, however, he argued that the press is very scandalous with its negative tendency as it is closely linked to the interests of the economic and political power elite.

“We are talking of the famous influential press such as the New York Times, the Washington Post”, he said, and recalled the role that newspaper played in the extraordinary investigation that uncovered an information concealment scheme that cost Richard Nixon the presidency years ago.

“And yesterday”, he warned, “the press published an article by Enrique Krauze” - a conservative Mexican historian, essayist, editor and organic intellectual whom López Obrador described as a trafficker in journalism -, “in which he says that by defending ourselves, replying to them and pointing out that they are journalists sold or rented to conservatism I put them at risk because they can be killed”.

“He wrote that like that yesterday in the Post, and who is going to assassinate him if we have always fought peacefully? This movement of the IV Transformation is ethical and we respect everyone's life, it is only to harm us, that is why I point it out because the dangerous thing is that they are already giving ideas”.
