This is Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister's first visit to Damascus since start of the war in 2011

Havana, April 18 (RHC) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on Tuesday, who began the first visit to Damascus since start of the war in 2011.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace after the arrival of the Saudi foreign minister at the airport in the Syrian capital where he was received by the Syrian Minister of the Presidency, Mansur Azam.

For its part, the Saudi Foreign Ministry published that this visit takes place within the framework of "the will and interest of the Kingdom in finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria that puts an end to all its repercussions."

In this sense, diplomacy added that this solution must also preserve "the unity, security, stability and Arab identity of Syria, while reintegrating it into its Arab context in a way that benefits the brotherly people."

The head of Syrian diplomacy, Faisal al Miqdad, visited Saudi Arabia last week as a result of an invitation from his counterpart with whom he exchanged on the efforts to achieve a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.

After this visit, the first since both countries broke relations in 2012, a joint statement was issued on the resumption of consular services and flights between the two nations. In this sense, Damascus and Riyadh agreed on the need to solve humanitarian issues, as well as on the importance of aid reaching all regions of Syria in order to create conditions to guarantee the return of Syrian refugees.
