Mexico City, June 7 (RHC)-- Mexico's Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced on Tuesday that he will resign from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, June 12th, to compete for the presidential candidacy of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party.

"I have resolved (...) to request and present my resignation to the Foreign Affairs Secretariat (...) with the purpose of dedicating myself fully, with joy and resolution, to defend the project headed by our president," expressed Ebrard, surrounded by his supporters.

Marcelo Ebrard formalized his intention to be Morena's presidential candidate at a time when the race among the aspirants to the official candidacy has increased its intensity.

The mayor of the Mexican capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the Minister of the Interior, Adán Augusto López are other officials aspiring to be Morena's presidential candidate.

Mexican media reported that President López Obrador met on Monday with the aspirants to Morena's presidential candidacy in order to make clear the guidelines for the internal competition.  The resignation from public offices held by the candidates would have been one of the conditions raised by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Next Sunday in the National Council of @PartidoMorenaMx, in unity, the terms of the call towards the 2024 

The national president of Morena, Mario Delgado, communicated that next Sunday will be defined the process to choose the candidate that will represent the alliance Juntos Hacemos Historia, also integrated by the Partido del Trabajo and the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM).
