Italy: Unions call strike for employees at U.S. military bases

Rome, Jun 27 (RHC) Italian trade unions have called for a strike of employees at U.S. military bases in this country on June 29 and 30 to demand their labor rights, a statement said.

The call for the strike, published on Tuesday on the official website of the Union of Workers in Tourism, Commerce and Services (Uiltucs), states that the reason for this action is to demand the renewal of the National Collective Bargaining Agreement that expired in October 2021, rejected by U.S. employers.

The affiliates of the Italian Workers' Trade Union Confederation (CISL), also reject the discrimination to which the personnel of this country is subjected as the American personnel, with the same functions in these military installations, as well as the unjustified dismissals, join these demands.

The four thousand workers who work at these facilities will hold demonstrations in front of the U.S. Air Force Bases located in Aviano, in the northern region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Sigonella, in the southwestern region of Campania.

There will also be protests around U.S. Army installations located in Pisa and Vicenza, in the northern regions of Tuscany and Veneto, respectively, as well as at the Naval Base in Naples, Campania region, the source said. (Source: PL)
