Lula participates in Brussels in meeting with progressive leaders

Latin American and European progressive and democratic leaders.

Brussels, July 18 (RHC)-- Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participated Tuesday in a breakfast meeting with progressive leaders and Latin American and European democrats, organized by former Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.

The meeting was held in parallel to the III Summit between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU), which closes its curtains today in the Belgian capital.

Among the topics discussed during the breakfast were the defense of democracy, the fight against inequality and the promotion of social welfare.

Respect for human rights, climate action and the environment were also addressed.

The topics represented points of common interest among the participants.

In addition to Lula, the meeting brought together Alberto Fernández (Argentina), Gabriel Boric (Chile), Gustavo Petro (Colombia), the Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Fredricksen, the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, and the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, among others.

Mexico was represented by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Barcena.

At the end of the Celac-EU forum, the 60 participating leaders are to issue a joint statement on the progress made during the meetings.
