Guatemala City, July 25 (RHC)-- In Guatemala, the platform Alianza por las Reformas called for a national strike this Monday to denounce corruption in the Central American country.

According to the platform formed by at least 40 social organizations, the objective of the protest is to expose cases of corruption and demand the resignation of public officials who are identified in the so-called "pact of corrupt."

Through its social networks, the Alliance for Reforms urged the population to mobilize towards the Public Prosecutor's Office.  They also called on authorities of the Central American country to guarantee respect for democracy in Guatemala.

The platform detailed that they will also seek the resignation of judges and prosecutors that they consider allied to corruption, pointing out specific sectors of the judicial system that, according to their criteria, are involved in illegal practices.

After the first round of the general elections, held last June 25, the Public Prosecutor's Office raided last Thursday the headquarters of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal and the Movimiento Semilla party, sparking protests among supporters of that political formation.
