Havana, Aug 7 (RHC) Reactions to former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori's temporary release from prison to a spa  continued to generate reactions and conjecture on Monday, despite official explanations that attribute the event to medical reasons.

A secretly recorded video showed the former president, convicted of crimes against humanity and corruption, walking unassisted, apparently in good condition and without handcuffs, to the Colombian Spa in the Lima neighborhood of Magdalena, surrounded by prison guards.

Thousands of Internet users reacted with alarm and the newspaper La República commented that, despite requests from family members and supporters for Fujimori, 85 years old, to leave prison because he is in very poor health, they contrast with the video, according to which "he is in good physical condition".

What happened led to criticism from lawyer Carlos Rivera, who defended the victims' families in the trial, in which Fujimori was sentenced in 2009 to 25 years in prison for crimes against humanity, as the perpetrator of two massacres of defenseless civilians executed by an illegal military squad.

Rivera described as a mockery to the relatives of the former president's victims that he has privileges such as being allowed to go to a spa despite being condemned for human rights violations.

Such a situation "has always occurred, and the only conclusion we can draw is that Fujimori is a special prisoner who does not receive common treatment," he added.

Opposition political and social organizations maintain that President Dina Boluarte maintains an alliance with the pro-Fujimori party Fuerza Popular (Source: Prensa Latina).
