Brasilia, Sep 1 (RHC) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will visit the state of Rio Grande do Norte on Friday, where he will present the Water for All program that will bring together investments in the water sector.

The plan also includes storage, such as dams and reservoirs, water distribution, recovery of rivers and springs, as well as resources for sanitation.

Created by the federal government through a decree on July 26, 2011, the initiative brings together preventive and corrective measures against drought in regions where rainfall is scarce, especially in rural areas.

This will be Lula's first visit to the territorial division since the beginning of his third term in office on January 1.

The last time the founder of the Workers' Party was in Rio Grande do Norte was on June 16, 2022, at the first edition of the Northeast Fair of Family Agriculture and Solidarity Economy.

On that occasion, he also participated in a political act during the electoral campaign.

According to the Government, sustainable access to water of sufficient quality and quantity for the population's consumption is the main objective of this axis of the so-called New Growth Acceleration Program.

In addition to promoting the approach to water, investments will strengthen communities in the face of water and climate challenges, contributing to human well-being and socioeconomic development.

According to the source, priority will also be given to undertakings that have the capacity to preserve ecosystems and provide adaptation to extreme climate events, all through a strong federative dialogue.Investments are made by states, municipalities, the private sector and non-profit organizations.

According to United Nations studies, one billion people in the world do not have a sufficient water supply. In Brazil, there are almost 35 million who do not have access to this basic service.Specialists say that the reasons for this are varied, such as unbridled population growth, contamination of water sources, overexploitation of water tables and degradation of forests. There are, however, ways of reducing the impact of these actions on nature and guaranteeing quality water for the entire population.

The democratization of access to the good goes through initiatives that promote the conscious consumption of water, improvements in garbage collection and sewage, among other points, say experts. (Source:PL)
