Catalan activists linked to the 'Free Assange Wave' movement have urged the Parliament to call for the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in view of his possible "imminent" extradition by the United Kingdom to the United States.

Barcelona, October 4 (RHC)-- Catalan activists linked to the 'Free Assange Wave' movement have urged the Parliament to call for the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in view of his possible "imminent" extradition by the United Kingdom to the United States.

At a press conference on Wednesday along with representatives of ERC, Junts, CUP and comuns, the former secretary general of Podem Albano Dante Fachín, who is part of the group of activists in support of Assange, has demanded that the Parliament and also the Govern "actively take action" in favor of the release of Assange and freedom of the press.

The activists have called for a demonstration "For Day X" -- which they have explained will be the day when the United Kingdom communicates the sentence of extradition of Assange, and that they assure that it may occur imminently.

Julian Assange is awaiting the resolution of the extradition process to the United States to be tried for 18 crimes of espionage and computer intrusion. Since April 11, 2019, he has been in Belmarsh high security prison, southeast of London, since Ecuador withdrew his political asylum and expelled him from its embassy in the British capital.
