Mexico City, October 19 (RHC)-- The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has confirmed that so far seven heads of state have confirmed their presence at the Migration Summit, to be held on Sunday, October 22nd, in the Mexican city of Palenque, in the state of Chiapas.
The Mexican leader said that the meeting aims to discuss solutions to the migration issue in the search for solutions.
Among the leaders who have confirmed their presence are the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro and the leaders of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel; of Colombia, Gustavo Petro; of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro; of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso; of Guatemala, Alejandro Giannetti and the prime minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry.
In addition, the attendance of the dignitaries of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele; of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves and Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, as well as the Prime Minister of Belize, Johnny Briceño, has yet to be confirmed.
Previously, the Mexican president had announced during his regular morning media briefing that there would be "a meeting of presidents and foreign ministers of neighboring countries, who are facing the migratory phenomenon. I am inviting you to meet in Palenque, Chiapas, on October 22."
At the meeting, 11 Latin American countries are expected to be represented in Chiapas, a state bordering Guatemala.
