Beijing, December 6 (RHC) -- The Chinese Foreign Ministry ratified its support for an amicable resolution of the dispute between Venezuela and Guyana over the Essequibo territory.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin stressed that the negotiated solution between the two countries is beneficial and contributes to stability, cooperation and development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

A statement from the Venezuelan government affirmed that this dispute is to be resolved through the Geneva Agreement of MIL 966.

The Guyanese president, Irfaán Alí, assured that he will take the issue to the UN Security Council.

Last week, the International Court of Justice asked both parties to refrain from any action that may aggravate the dispute over the Essequiba Guiana, which dates back more than a century and a half.
