United Nations, February 22 (RHC)-- The death toll in Gaza since October 7th is nearing 30,000, not counting thousands more who are missing, presumed dead and buried beneath the rubble.

Amid worsening hunger, UNICEF is warning the war-torn territory is “poised to witness an explosion in preventable child deaths which would compound the already unbearable level of child deaths.”

Israeli forces again opened fire at crowds waiting for humanitarian aid, killing at least one person and wounding many others.

One man in the crowd, identified as Abdullah Sawaf, spoke with reporters: “Because we want to eat, we are dying of hunger.  Why would someone put themself at risk of dying by coming here?  It is in order to feed the children.  We are dying of hunger, and there is no food or drink left in Gaza.  There is a famine.”
