Lima, October 1 (Mercopress-RHC) -- Uruguay's lawmaker and chief of the Organization of American States Electoral Observation Mission (OAS/EOM) Sergio Abreu arrived on Tuesday in Lima to lead a group of 35 people who will observe Peru's October 5th regional and municipal elections in 16 departments of the country and the Province of Callao.
The rest of the Mission, which arrived in Peru on September 23rd, has already deployed observers to eight departments of the country to keep track of different electoral organization aspects.
The Mission comprises experts that will carry out a thorough analysis of the electoral process in terms of electoral organization and technology, campaign financing, equal participation of men and women in the process, electoral security, dispute resolution, and participation of native groups.
During the week, Chief of Mission Abreu will hold meetings with political leaders, governmental and electoral authorities, members of civil society and representatives of the international community.
On Election Day, observers will be present in voting centers across 16 departments of the country from the opening of the ballot boxes until vote counting concludes.
The following Monday, the OAS/EOM will present its preliminary conclusions in a press conference and later deliver the final report before the Organization´s Permanent Council in Washington, DC.
