Zero tolerance for any acts committed by extremist settlers in Gaza....

Ottawa, May 16 (RHC) Canada announced Thursday sanctions against citizens of Israel who occupy land in the Gaza Strip and commit acts of violence against residents of that territory of Palestine, which it defined as unacceptable.

Until this moment, there is no specific record of the punitive measures imposed by the North American nation against David Chai Chasdai, Yinon Levi, Zvi Bar Yosef and Moshe Sharvit, but described them as extremists and accused them of abusing the civilian population.

“The sanctions are in response to the grave violation of international peace and security represented by their violence and destabilizing actions against Palestinian civilians and their property,” the government said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly (pictured) added that with such a decision Ottawa sends a clear message about its position, makes clear zero tolerance for any act committed by extremist settlers and warns the perpetrators about the consequences to be faced.

The Canadian government blames these individuals for the ongoing tensions that have fuelled the conflict in the region and caused the alarming escalation of violence in recent months.

This situation, he added, undermined the human rights of Palestinians, undermined the prospects for a two-state solution and also put regional security at greater risk.

Canada thus fulfilled its promise to sanction the four Israeli settlers, after the United Nations reported an increase in attacks by these individuals since last October.

In addition, in this northern country, students from several universities are camping out in solidarity with Palestine and to demand the suppression of all items benefiting Israel, divestment, budget transparency, changes in investment policy and a boycott of international relations.

The young people are also asking for a public statement demanding respect for the rights of the Palestinians, in the face of the increasing harassment and discrimination suffered by students of that origin and their allies in the centers of higher studies. (PL)
