Gaza City, June 23 (RHC)-- The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed this Saturday that more than 76 percent of schools in the Gaza Strip "need reconstruction or major rehabilitation to return to operation."

The humanitarian agency demanded an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and specified that education is a fundamental human right.

In February, the spokesperson for the Secretary General of the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric, denounced that more than 30 percent of schools had been directly impacted by Israeli bombings.

Now, four months later, UNRWA reports that the attacks by Israeli forces continue, with air, land and sea bombardments throughout the Gaza Strip.

The UNRWA affirmed that Israeli forces are carrying out their ground offensive that is expanding south of Gaza City and east of Rafah, "deepening the humanitarian crisis and significantly destabilizing humanitarian aid flows."
