Bogota, June 25 (RHC)-- Upon learning of the release of the WikiLeaks founder, as part of an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice that would allow him to be free after spending five years in a British prison, President Gustavo Petro spoke out congratulating Julian Assange on his freedom and invited him to our country.

“Assange's eternal imprisonment and torture was an attack on press freedom on a global scale.  Denouncing the massacre of civilians in Iraq by the U.S. war effort was his crime.  Now the massacre is repeated in Gaza,” the president said through his X account.

In that same message, the Colombian president extended an invitation to the founder of WikiLeaks.  “I invite Julian and his wife Stella to visit Colombia and let's do a celebration for true freedom,” he concluded.
