Caracas, June 26 (RHC)-- Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez affirmed that authoritieshave intelligence information about the plans of the extreme right -- pointing to a sabotage plan that aims to demolish the Angostura Bridge, located over the Orinoco River, in the state of Bolívar.

From the scene of the bridge, Rodríguez warned that this is a plan that they have been articulating and that "fortunately, thanks to our monitoring, security, and maintenance system, we have been able to detect that (...) they have been cutting the guayas that are in the sleepers of the bridge and that support the structure.

The Venezuelan vice president noted that after cutting the guayas "they have left them deposited there" and explained that to do this "they have to descend 50 meters at the bases of the bridge in very complicated conditions: 40 degrees Celsius minimum temperature and little oxygen.  "But they have been cutting between 10 and 20 percent of the guayas that support the bridge."

The vice president said: "The plans of extremism, of the surnames of fascism, of the surnames of the oligarchy, do not want an election because they already know they have been defeated, they want to sabotage the election of July 28th."

In addition, she recalled that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has assured that peace will be guaranteed in the country before, during and after the electoral process on July 28th.

For his part, the Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, described the event as "a criminal plan."  "Here is proof of a criminal plan, criminal minds.  There is no other way to describe their trying to tear down this bridge that, according to history, was the first bridge of this type that was installed in Latin America," he emphasized.

"The bridge has an extension of 1,662 meters and there is already a coordination with national companies, a technical team of bridge pathologists, which President Nicolás Maduro has ordered to activate immediately."   He added: "We know that criminal minds are directing this sabotage plan and they can go to other places in our country.  We are immediately going to reactivate everything that is the splicing of all these wires that have been intentionally cut," he added.

The minister specified that a general maintenance plan and a surveillance system through cameras, ordered by the president, will also be implemented.  The day before, the Venezuelan head of state had already denounced plans by the extreme right against the National Electric System.
