Brussels, June 27 (RHC)--The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) announced this Wednesday the appointment of Mark Rutte as its new secretary general.  Rutte asserted “The Alliance is and will continue to be the cornerstone of our collective security.  Leading this organization is a responsibility that I do not take lightly.  "I thank all the allies who have placed their trust in me."

On the other hand, the outgoing Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, wrote on the social network X «I warmly welcome the election, by the NATO Allies, of Minister Mark Rutte as my successor.  Mark is a true all-rounder, a strong leader and a consensus builder.  I wish you every success as we continue to strengthen NATO.  I know that he left NATO in good hands.

Meanwhile, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, highlighted the qualities of the Dutch politician and expressed that "they will be crucial for the Alliance during these difficult times."

Von der Leyen added “I look forward to working with you to further strengthen the EU-NATO partnership.”

Mark Rutte, 57, is considered by some to be one of the most successful politicians in the European Union, credited with establishing good relations with several British and American leaders.

Rutte has proven to be a firm ally of the Kiev regime and a fierce critic of Moscow and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
