Tegucigalpa, June 27 (RHC)-- Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, is hosting the CELAC Social 2024 event starting this Thursday, in which the presence of leaders and representatives of social movements from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean is expected.

"CELAC Social 2024 promises to be a transformative event, uniting voices and efforts in building a better future for all the people of Latin America and the Caribbean."

According to a statement from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the organization "has designated this country as the ideal venue for the meeting, highlighting its crucial role in the defense of social justice and democracy in the region."

Likewise, it specifies that said space “will not only focus on past struggles and resistance, but will also look to the future, addressing critical issues such as the fight against poverty, the defense of human rights, access to education and health, and environmental protection.”

In that sense, the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, highlighted that "Honduras is ready to welcome all the brothers and sisters of Latin America with open arms, at a crucial moment to reaffirm our identity and common purpose."

The II CELAC Social will take place on June 27, 28 and 29 in Tegucigalpa, organized by social organizations from Honduras and supported by various organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean. 

The São Paulo Forum, the Puebla Group and the Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity will participate in CELAC Social 2024.

“This is a historic moment to reaffirm our identity and common purpose, celebrating the resistance and unity that defines us as a region,” CELAC highlighted in a statement.
