Tegucigalpa, June 27 (RHC)-- The XXVII Meeting of the São Paulo Forum begins this Thursday in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, with the participation of important figures and representatives from various political and social spheres, and to commemorate the 15 years of the coup d'état against former president Manuel Zelaya Rosales on in June 2009.
The São Paulo Forum announced the main topics that will be addressed during the meeting "Starting from the challenges of regional integration, we share our reflections on the global political context and on our organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean."
During the meetings they will address the world stage, from the loss of hegemony of the Western powers; the Israeli genocide on the Palestinian people, perpetrated by the right-wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu; “pressure from Northern countries towards Southern countries to impose neocolonial trade agreements and treaties, ensuring access to supplies and resources for their own energy transition.”
Participants will also discuss the achievements made by the BRICS+, the growing presence of progressive and left-wing political forces in the governments of the region, the revitalization and consolidation of CELAC, ALBA-TCP, UNASUR, SICA and CARICOM, among others.
The text recognizes the challenges that nations such as Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua have had to face.
“Cuba continues to heroically face for more than 60 years the unjust, criminal, genocidal and intensified blockade of the imperial power of the United States, as well as the inclusion in the illegal list of state sponsors of terrorism. The dignity of the Cuban people is an example for all nations and popular parties in the world,” the text adds.
“Venezuela and its people, who suffer the cruelest economic coercive measures and unilateral sanctions by the U.S., continue to resist and strengthen their democracy. The elections called for July 28 of this year are a process of broad popular participation, which reflects the diversity and richness of the Venezuelan political spectrum and the commitment of the Bolivarian revolution to democracy, citizenship and the political rights of the people.
The document also mentions the attempts by the right to stage a soft coup in Colombia; the events that occurred in Ecuador with the assault on the Mexican embassy and the kidnapping of former vice president Jorge Glas; support for the struggles for self-determination and independence of Puerto Rico, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Virgin Islands, French Guiana, among others, and Argentine sovereignty over the Falklands; the US interest in reimposing the Monroe Doctrine to control the region.
