Lima, October 8 (Andina-RHC) --Electronic voting was successfully implemented in several districts in the recent Peru municipal and regional elections, paving the way for greater citizen participation in the democratic process, analysts said.
With this initiative, Peru is at the forefront of the countries in Latin America looking at their electoral reforms.
"Supported by Scytl, a worldwide leader in secure online voting and election modernization, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) was able to deliver Peruvian citizens a more secure, transparent and modern electoral system this year." a spokesman said.
The initiative was implemented in seven districts and covered over 85 percent of eligible voters.
In addition to ensure the modernization of the country´s electoral process, the Software Electoral en Red was used to provide elections with improved security, transparency and efficiency.
“We see a great commitment from ONPE in the adoption of electronic voting nationwide. With this success, Peru joins the trend of digital democratization taking place across Latin America,” said Pere Valles, CEO Scytl.
The electronic voting system also provides cost savings of between 30% and 40%.
