Washington, July 14 (RHC)-- The main Muslim civil rights group in the United States has called on President Joe Biden to stop enabling the Israeli regime to commit daily massacres in the Gaza Strip.
Nihad Awad, director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) appealed in a statement on Saturday, after Israel airstrikes in the al-Mawasi refugee camp near the southern Gaza City of Khan Younis left at least 90 Palestinians dead and more than 300 others wounded earlier in the day.
“President Biden’s continuing support for and silence about the genocide gives a green light for more Israeli abuses and war crimes,” Awad said. He went on to say that Israel is acting with impunity, knowing that it will continue to receive US support despite its atrocities against Palestinians.
The CAIR director further noted that Biden must stop enabling these daily massacres and end the United States’ complicity in genocide. “Administration officials must begin to treat Palestinians as human beings worthy of life, dignity and justice, not as animals only fit for slaughter,” he added.
On Saturday, a series of airstrikes were conducted by Israel’s F16 warplanes that targeted the al-Mawasi area designated by the regime as a so-called “safe” zone. The attacks, which took place around 10:30 a.m., initially resulted in the killing of dozens of civilians who were subsequently transported to the Nasser Medical Complex, with over 100 others injured, some critically.
Rescue teams continue to retrieve dozens of casualties from the sites of the bombings. The horrific massacre drew widespread condemnation, with the Palestinian resistance movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad holding the Biden administration responsible for this heinous crime.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, blamed the US administration for the massacre in al-Mawasi. He also pointed out that "without blind and biased US support, this occupation would not be able to continue its bloody crimes against the Palestinian people.”
Without U.S. support, the Israeli regime “would not be able to defy international laws and the decisions of international courts that have demanded an end to the onslaught and protection for our people,” he added.
