Caracas, August 6 (RHC)-- The Venezuelan Public Ministry announced on Monday the beginning of a criminal investigation against former presidential candidate Edmundo González for the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) coalition and the opposition leader María Corina Machado, in order to determine their responsibility for the alleged commission of multiple crimes.

Through a statement, the entity explained that the decision was made "as a consequence of the dissemination of a statement by former candidate Edmundo González and citizen María Corina Machado where, outside the Constitution and the Law, they falsely announce a winner of the presidential elections other than the one proclaimed by the National Electoral Council, the only body qualified to do so."

In this regard, the Attorney General of the South American country stresses that the representatives of the extreme right-wing opposition against whom the investigative process is initiated, openly incite "police and military officials to disobey the laws."
