Venezuela expresses solidarity with Honduran President Xiomara Castro after attempted coup

Caracas, September 1 (RHC)-- Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has expressed his support for Honduran president Xiomara Castro on the social network Telegram after she denounced that a coup d’état is being plotted to overthrow her government.

“On behalf of the entire people of Venezuela, I express my absolute support for the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, who is the victim of a cruel and disproportionate attack by those who have sown terror in Our America,” said the Venezuelan head of state.

Maduro also denounced those who have “promoted coups d’état and established alliances and protection for criminal and fascist groups who today want to threaten our democracies.”

The Venezuelan president stressed that it is intended to threaten democracy in the region, and the first authority of the Central American nation is worthy daughter of Francisco Morazán, has taken a step forward in consolidating independence and national sovereignty in Honduras.

“The peoples of Latin America admire their courage and bravery, and history has forced us to close ranks in the battle for the dignity of our country against imperial and neo-colonial claims; that the United States of America is throwing at the noble Honduran people,” said Maduro.

Last Thursday, August 29th, President Xiomara Castro reported that the U.S. government has been hatching a coup plan against Honduras, as part of the break-up of the extradition treaty with the United States.
