Bogota, September 15 (RHC)-- Colombia will unrestrictedly support a draft resolution that Palestine will soon present to the UN General Assembly, according to the president of the South American country, Gustavo Petro, on Saturday.

On his social network X, the president released a letter sent to his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, where he assures that his country will support the initiative to implement the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice of July 19th.

This text is related to the “Legal Consequences of the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem.”

Regarding the aforementioned draft resolution, I want to assure you that you can count on the unrestricted support of the Government of Colombia in this effort, said the Colombian leader.

He also added that he instructed the diplomatic representation in New York to work shoulder to shoulder with the delegation of Palestine and to accompany with special diligence the process of negotiation of this document.

It is a source of special satisfaction for me to note that one of the concrete actions that is sought to be incorporated in the resolution is the convening of an international conference, under the auspices of the UN, in order to advance the implementation of the numerous resolutions on the Palestinian Question, said Petro.

As you know, he continued, this is a call that I have been making for some time, convinced as I am that the only possible solution to the multiple problems that afflict the Middle East is through a concentrated and coordinated effort by the international community.

I fervently hope that this idea will gain the necessary support within the General Assembly, as a way of showing the world that in relation to the tragedy unleashed in Gaza by the occupying power, the time has come to move from words to actions, he concluded.    (Source: Prensa Latina)
