President of Honduras affirms that her government is of the people

Tegucigalpa, September 16 (RHC)-- The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, presided over the act of commemoration for the 203rd anniversary of the Independence of Central America, from the National Stadium "Chelato Uclés", where she affirmed that her Government is of the people.

The president stressed that two years ago, at this same forum, she ordered the implementation of the Morazánica Chair, a structural part of the reform implemented during her Government, following the plan to refound the country.

“The legacy of the Central Americanist and founder of the great homeland must be recognized, studied and practiced by our children as a guide to follow for his ideals, values ​​and thoughts,” she said.

Xiomara Castro invited the youth to continue the studies of General Francisco Morazán, for being a champion of the Central American union, and his ideals of justice and freedom.  “We have established since my first day of Government, our political and social commitment in favor of the defense of democracy and sovereignty against interference,” she said.

The Honduran president stressed that her message bothers a group of people, accustomed to controlling the State and the national economy to do national business, but she stressed that the transparency of her Government is aimed at returning the dignity and rights of the people, which were stolen.

Xiomara Castro warned that her government is facing the arbitration center that is detrimental to the sovereignty of Honduras: the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States (ICSID).

She also stressed that “in defense of our sovereignty and with support, the government repealed the law that authorizes the sale of our territory.”  “Honduras defends itself with dignity and courage,” said the president, “at the same time we guarantee free and transparent elections.”

“Sovereignty is guaranteeing that the decisions that benefit the people of Honduras are made by the government elected by the people, not by de facto powers,” said the president, inviting the working class to continue fighting for independence, sovereignty and justice.  Honduras is not a business. They have to pay taxes,” she said.

Social programs and rights

Regarding security in the country, the Honduran president insisted that among the main policies implemented two years and seven months into her administration, security and social programs stand out.

Children receive their school snacks every day, she stressed, while insisting that thousands of schools are being rebuilt in the country, as well as public health institutions.  She highlighted the construction of a major hospital in Tegucigalpa.

On the other hand, she recognized the increase in the production of basic grains for the food of the people.

Justice

Likewise, the president declared that she will not tire of asking for justice for the 174 martyrs of the coup regime and maintained that she will investigate and obtain justice after the murder of the environmental leader Juan López in Tocoa, Colón.

“I demand the greatest attention from our authorities to clarify the murder of the environmental leader,” she called for.

In the morning, the president participated in the solemn act of raising the National Flag in the Central Plaza of Tegucigalpa (capital), where Mayor Jorge Aldana read the Act of Independence, to start the parades, coordinated by the Permanent Inter-Institutional Civic Committee (Cocip).

“Long live Honduras, Long live Central America, Long live Independence!” exclaimed the Honduran president once she finished reading the document.  She placed a floral offering at the statue of Francisco Morazán, a symbol of struggle and unity for all Hondurans.

Throughout the day on Sunday, the main cities of Honduras welcomed thousands of people who took to the streets to celebrate the patriotic parades, dressed in the colors of the national flag.

Students from public and private schools have been the protagonists of the marches, with elegant choreographies, to the rhythm of drums and trumpets.  The parades are not just another celebration, but also confirm the values ​​of freedom, respect and national pride.
