Bogota, September 15 (RHC)-- The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has reaffirmed his commitment to peace in the Middle East by proposing to the United Nations the convening of an international conference focused on the situation in Palestine.

In a letter addressed to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the Colombian president expressed his unconditional support for the resolution that Palestine will present to the United Nations, which seeks to implement an Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice.  This proposal was presented on July 19th and seeks to strengthen the legal and diplomatic framework around the Palestinian issue.

"I want to assure you that you can count on the full and unrestricted support of the Government of Colombia in this effort," Petro stressed in his message.  In addition, the Colombian president indicated that he has instructed his diplomatic representation at the United Nations to collaborate closely with the Palestinian delegation during the negotiation process.

Petro emphasized the importance of including in the resolution the call for an international conference, with the objective of advancing the implementation of effective solutions for the Palestinian problem.

This proposal not only reflects Colombia's commitment to peace, but also seeks to foster a constructive dialogue between the parties involved, seeking to end Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people.
