Brasilia, September 18 (RHC)-- Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva reaffirmed his position regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing Brazil's commitment to finding a peaceful solution.

Lula stated that the leaders of Russia and Ukraine did not establish communication with him before the start of the conflict, which could have facilitated a dialogue between the nations.

Brazil remains without positioning itself in favor of either State; Lula has always affirmed his support for negotiations.  This stance came after the Zelensky administration requested that Lula visit Ukraine and witness the destruction caused by the Russian attacks.

Lula responded: “It is important that Brazil does not participate in the war between Ukraine and Russia, that it says that we are in favor of peace and not war.  Those who want to talk to us now could have done so before the war had begun.”

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin has requested the mediation of countries such as Brazil, China and India, founding members of the BRICS, in the search for peace, since “they share the rejection of war, conflicts and violence.”

“Brazil stands out for one thing: We are part of a continent that likes peace and we want peace,” Lula added, emphasizing the perspective of the South American nation.
