Ramallah, October 15 (RHC)-- The families and relatives of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have held a protest outside the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ramallah. The gathering was held on Tuesday as part of weekly sit-ins.

Palestinian MP Ahmad Attoun told reporters: "The sit-ins aim at keeping the issue of prisoners active in the Palestinian society and it is a message to the world that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails continue to suffer a lot. The occupation does not distinguish between children, women elderly or sick prisoners. 'Administrative detainees' are all Palestinians."

Reports say over 7,000 Palestinians are being held in Israeli jails. There are approximately 2,000 of the Palestinian prisoners have been arrested over the past few months. Most of the Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli prisons for a long time without any accusation while they are not even provided with their basic needs, including visiting family members.

On September 26th, the Ahrar Center for Prisoners Studies said Israel was holding 540 Palestinians without trial, showing an increase in the number of these cases over the past six years.

In September, the Palestinian Department of Prisoners' Affairs accused the Israeli regime of serious negligence regarding the health conditions of Palestinian detainees.
