Damascus, October 1 (RHC)-- Israeli military forces, in the midst of a tense war panorama in the Middle East, have begun bombings against the Syrian capital, Damascus.

According to a report by teleSUR correspondent in Damascus, Hisham Wannous, this "constitutes a new aggression against Syria with missiles launched from the Occupied Syrian Golan,” adding that this action is aimed against “military positions of the Syrian-Arab Army in the perimeter of Damascus.”

Faced with this new offensive, teleSUR's correspondent points out, the Syrian forces have activated their anti-aircraft system, preventing missiles launched by Israel from reaching national territory.

Wannous explains that the shrapnel — fragments of the body of an explosive device, which is generated immediately after its detonation — were the ones that fell on parts of Damascus, causing “damage to private and public property.”

The fall of the debris also claimed the life of at least one person, leaving others injured, although there are no official figures yet, only preliminary data.

The “dead victim was identified as a newscaster on Syrian television,” Wannous said.
