Pretoria, October 15 (RHC)-- The South African government has strongly condemned the recent wave of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, labeling them as “a serious violation of territorial sovereignty and international humanitarian law.”

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation issued a statement emphasizing that “the international community cannot afford to remain indifferent” to these actions.

The statement also highlighted concerns regarding the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), warning that Israeli military operations jeopardize the safety of its peacekeepers following violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This resolution aims to maintain peace and security in the region, but recent incursions by Israeli forces across the Blue Line have raised alarms.

South Africa further asserted that attacks targeting peacekeeping personnel represent “a grave violation of international humanitarian law.”

The African nation called for an immediate cessation of the bombardment, stating that prolonged conflict increases the risk of a broader military conflagration, posing a significant threat to international peace and security.

This condemnation reflects growing global concern over the escalating violence in Lebanon and its implications for regional stability.
