Buenos Aires, October 17 (RHC)-- This Thursday, the teaching and non-teaching unions are observing a 24-hour strike and demonstrate at public universities across the country to protest against President Javier Milei's veto of the university financing law, which has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies, without attendance at work.

Likewise, in the next week, they intend to carry out "activities to make visible" the claims, such as public classes, vigils and road and street blockades, as they have done in recent days as the occupations of faculties, rectorates and pre-university colleges increased.

The national table, made up of authorities of the National Interuniversity Council (CIN), teaching and non-teaching unions, as well as student groups and student centers, determined the force measure and each building will remain closed.

The Conadu Histórica pointed out that the union action plan is in defense of the Public University, for the salary recomposition and the university budget."  It also "expressed support for the occupations, vigils, permanences and other initiatives that the student movement is supporting in the different universities of the country."

The union's general secretary, Carlos De Feo, stated in a statement from the union federation that "there are no negotiations of any kind with the Government. And this lack of dialogue implies a very serious problem, because it has to do with the breakdown of a democratic pact in Argentina."

70 percent of the salaries of teachers and non-teaching staff are below the poverty line, according to the CIN.

The Argentinian University Federation (FUA) organized a 48-hour strike for next Monday and Tuesday, accompanied by the union front of university teachers.  Several actions were agreed upon and supported by the CIN, to demand "a collective bargaining agreement that recognizes the specificity of university workers and offers a solution to the serious salary situation."

A public class is being held simultaneously in the National Congress and in all affiliated universities in Argentina.

According to Todo Noticias, the General Audit Office of the Nation (SIGEN) will begin an audit of 26 public universities that have already signed a control agreement with the organization.

After receiving the approval of the Government, the internal control body will carry out the measure as one of its first actions to evaluate the finances of the organizations.
