UN envoy condemns Israeli killings of civilians in Gaza

Havana, 30 October (RHC) The UN Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, today condemned the widespread Israeli killing of civilians in Gaza, following an attack that left dozens of dead in the north of the enclave.

In a statement issued here, the Special Coordinator described as appalling Tel Aviv's latest attack on the town of Beit Lahia, which left at least 90 Palestinians dead or missing, including 25 children.

This horrific attack is one in a series of recent deadly incidents that have resulted in heavy casualties and a campaign of mass displacement in the north," the diplomat added.

According to Wennesland, the situation raises serious concerns about violations of international humanitarian law.

The envoy reiterated calls for all parties to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law and for a ceasefire.

This endless spiral of death and destruction must end immediately," he said.

According to local media, at least 93 Palestinians were killed in northern Gaza after Israeli shelling hit a five-story building in Beit Lahia.

The wounded were taken to Kamal Adwan hospital, which had earlier been the target of an Israeli raid that resulted in the arrest of 100 people, mostly medical staff.

The medical facility, singled out by Tel Aviv for allegedly harboring weapons and Hamas fighters on its premises, has only three active doctors, the World Health Organization has confirmed.  (Source: Prensa Latina)
