Ramallah, November 6 (RHC)-- The Palestinian Ministry of Education reported that since October 7, 2023, 11,923 Palestinian students have been killed in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and 19,199 have been injured.
In the Gaza Strip, the number of student victims has reached 11,808 dead and 18,596 wounded, while the West Bank has recorded 115 students killed and 603 wounded. The educational community has also suffered significant losses with 561 teachers and administrators killed, 3,729 wounded and more than 148 arrested in the West Bank.
On the other hand, the educational infrastructure has been severely affected by the Israeli bombings.
A total of 341 government schools and universities, along with 65 facilities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), have been attacked. In addition, 138 educational centres were severely damaged and 77 completely destroyed. In this context, all Palestinian students have had to interrupt their courses.
Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people has deprived 788,000 Gazan students of their right to education. The surviving children face serious psychological trauma and extremely precarious health conditions amid the conflict.
In the provinces of Jenin and Tulkarem the situation is particularly critical, due to the constant Israeli military incursions, which have sown terror among students trying to continue their studies.
The psychological impact of Israeli actions threatens to leave permanent scars on an entire generation of young Palestinians.
The systematic destruction of the Palestinian education system represents not only an immediate humanitarian crisis, but also a threat to the future development of the region.
