Beirut, November 15 (RHC)-- The Israeli regime has launched a fresh round of aggression on Lebanon and targeted with missiles the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut as the occupying entity expands its atrocious onslaught on the country.
Lebanon's al-Mayadeen television network said two strikes were launched on Friday by an Israeli drone, which were followed by a third that involved “highly intense bombing” by the regime’s warplanes. The strikes targeted Beirut's southern areas of Tayyouneh, Ghobeiry and Bourj al-Barajneh, causing significant destruction to buildings.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported a "heavy strike" carried out with two missiles fired by an "enemy aircraft" in the area of Bourj al-Barajneh.
Maan al-Khalil, the mayor of Ghobeiry, was cited by al-Mayadeen as saying in a statement that the number of airstrikes in the area had reached 11 in less than 48 hours. Khalil stressed that the recent airstrikes targeted the vicinity of the municipality and Ghobeiry's main street, resulting in extensive damage to residential buildings and vital infrastructure.
Describing such attacks as "an attempt to suffocate Lebanese civil society," Ghobeiry’s mayor praised the unwavering resolve of the Lebanese people and said, "We are steadfast and will endure. We will rebuild everything that the Israeli occupation has destroyed."
The World Bank said in a new report on Thursday that Israel’s brutal aggression against Lebanon had inflicted huge economic and physical losses on the country since last October, putting the amount of losses suffered by the country at more than $8.5 billion.
Israel launched a ground assault and massive air campaign against Lebanon in late September after a year of exchanging fire across the Lebanese border in parallel with the Gaza war. At least 3,287 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon over the past year, with the vast majority in the past seven weeks. Another 14,222 have been wounded, mostly women and children.
In response to the ongoing aggression, the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has been staging hundreds of retaliatory strikes against the occupied Palestinian territories and the Israeli forces trying to advance on southern Lebanese areas.
Hezbollah on Thursday carried out fresh retaliatory operations against Israeli targets deep inside the occupied territories, hitting a number of the regime’s vital military bases in Tel Aviv and Haifa.
The movement has vowed to sustain its strikes until the regime ends the escalation.
