Lima, October 22 (RHC-Andina) -- Peruvian Foreign Minister Gonzalo Gutierrez Reinel has assured Angolan Ambassador to Peru, Nelson Cosme, that Angolan diplomats will be able to attend training programs at the Javier Perez de Cuellar Academy of Diplomacy of Peru. The issue was discussed when the Angolan ambassador called on him in Lima Monday.
The academy is named after the former United Nations secretary general, who had an outstanding performance in the peace process of South West Africa and the consequent independence of Namibia. It is a reputable training institution that receives diplomats from all over the world.
Angola and Peru are engaged in enhancing bilateral relations. Peru expects to appoint an ambassador to Angola soon, as part of its project to expand its presence in Africa.
Last week, Angola and Peru held talks in Lima between delegations headed by the Angolan Ambassador and the director-general of the Africa and Middle East department of the foreign ministry, Ambassador Santiago Marcovich.
The two sides are working on a schedule of actions aimed at materializing the General Agreement on Political Co-operation, Scientific, Technical and Cultural deal, the memorandum of understanding on the regular political consultations and the agreement on visa facilitation for diplomatic and service passports which had been previously signed.
