According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, the expansion of the BRICS represents a significant step towards its strengthening as a comprehensive collaborative platform

Havana, Dec 24 (RHC) China has emphasized the significance of the BRICS group's growth, with the inclusion of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Uganda as partners.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, stated that following the group's historic expansion in the previous year, the addition of these countries represents a significant advancement in the BRICS development process.

According to Mao, this expansion enhances the mechanism's capacity to foster international collaboration, particularly in the Global South, while expanding its inclusivity, convening authority, and impact.

She stressed that the group's goal is to boost economic, political and social cooperation at a crucial time for the international order.

The addition of these countries also represents a significant stride towards the strengthening of BRICS as a comprehensive collaborative platform, capable of collectively and unitedly addressing global issues.

The group, initially comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has achieved a significant expansion in 2023 by welcoming Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The expansion enhances the group's influence in the global economic landscape, providing increased representation and capacity to shape the development and global governance processes. (Source: Prensa Latina)
