Tegucigalpa, January 3 (RHC)-- The President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, has announced that as the pro tempore president of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), she would convene a meeting of the organization's foreign ministers to address the issue of migration.

President Castro explained that this meeting would be convened with the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, and that it would take place in January.

The Honduran head of state indicated that the ministerial meeting would also aim to support Haiti and express regional solidarity with Cuba, in the face of the blockade maintained by the United States for over 60 years.

"We will organize a meeting of foreign ministers in January to address the issue of migration, support the sister republic of Haiti and express our solidarity with the people and government of Cuba," said Xiomara Castro.

On January 20, Donald Trump, who has threatened to carry out mass deportations of migrants since the first day of his term, will take office.

According to Honduran Deputy Foreign Minister Tony García, some 250,000 Hondurans could be expelled from the United States by 2025, which the country is not prepared for.
