San Jose, January 5 (RHC)-- The Costa Rican Chapter of the Antifascist International denounced the attempts at destabilization against the sovereignty and security of Venezuela carried out by former presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, which are supported by the U.S., and repudiated any attempt by that representative of the Venezuelan far-right to visit that Central American nation.

Through a statement issued the day before, the aforementioned section of the Antifascist International reminded that "Costa Rica has been used by the U.S. as a beachhead to attack other nations in the past and continues to do so."

They condemned any attempt by González Urrutia, whom they considered a persona non grata, to visit that Central American country and the position taken by President Rodrigo Chaves, representatives of his Government, and other individuals from different political spheres "by making public statements of not respecting the electoral processes of another country, thereby disrespecting the principle of the autonomy of peoples."

"We alert our country to the possibility that Edmundo González Urrutia might come here, an act that would involve Costa Rica in a conflict against a brother country, which is contrary to our democratic principles," he expressed.

The Costa Rica Chapter supported the historical position of military neutrality expressed by that country "in the face of conflicts that arise in the world and our region, based on respect for the autonomy of peoples and non-interference in the internal affairs of each country."

He questioned that González Urrutia did not accept the results of the presidential elections on June 28, which had all the democratic guarantees and in which President Nicolás Maduro Moros was re-elected. He emphasized that this maneuver, supported by the White House, aims to deny the legitimacy of Venezuelan authorities.

He pointed out that González Urrutia replicates that "deliberately false and misleading discourse" during his tour of several countries to escalate the Venezuelan situation ahead of Maduro Moros' swearing-in for the 2025-2030 presidential term, which is scheduled for January 10.

"From the dark neoliberal night that we are currently experiencing in certain countries of our Latin America, the antifascist movements of our continent raise our voices to remind you that there are many of us who still have memory and we say to you: "They will not return!" expressed the Costa Rican activists.

During the last few hours, the Chapters of the Antifascist International in Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile also rejected this maneuver by González Urrutia.

González Urrutia was the only former presidential candidate who did not commit to respecting the results of the 28J elections, in which Nicolás Maduro was re-elected with 6,408,844 votes. (51,95 por ciento). González Urrutia obtained 5,326,104 votes. (43,18 por ciento).  The validity of the result was confirmed during a subsequent investigation carried out by the Supreme Court of Justice.

After the elections, he self-proclaimed himself as the winner and tried to spread false results from a website that sought to impersonate the National Electoral Council's site, with fraudulent minutes prepared in advance, in which numerous irregularities were detected.

As if that weren't enough, he encouraged violent actions by shock groups instigated by the far-right that caused the death of around thirty people and destroyed about 200 facilities.

All of this happened amidst thousands of cyberattacks against websites and public services to prevent the truth about the elections from being known.

Recently, the Attorney General's Office of Venezuela issued an arrest warrant against González Urrutia for the crimes of "Conspiracy, Complicity in the use of violent acts against the Republic, Usurpation of functions, Forgery of documents, Money laundering, Disrespect for state institutions, Incitement to disobedience of the laws, Association for delinquency, among others."
