Guatemala City, January 16 (RHC)-- The Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity party (URNG-MAIZ) has rejected the visit of the former candidate of the Venezuelan extreme right to the presidency of Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia to that Central American nation.
Through a statement, the political party warned that numerous social networks have reported that in the afternoon of this day, González Urrutia entered Guatemala to meet with the president of that nation, Bernardo Arévalo, and in this way, request support to continue with his destabilizing plans against Venezuela.
Faced with the fact, the URNG-MAIZ party presented its energetic protest and rejection, considering it an act of submission and an attack against national sovereignty and the self-determination of the four peoples that make up the Guatemalan nation.
"The Guatemalan government headed by Bernardo Arévalo with this event begins on the wrong foot its second year of government as a result of the sovereign popular will of the Guatemalan people, which gave it the mandate to steer Guatemala back to the programmatic principles of Democracy, real, functional and participatory, framed in the principles of the common good, social justice, national sovereignty, non-alignment and solidarity with the peoples of the world», the political entity highlights in a statement.
In this way, URNG-MAIZ declares "non grata to the visitor Edmundo Gonzales Urrutia and those who accompany him." It urged "the various ancestral, social, popular and political organizations to join in the rejection of events such as the one reported."
After learning of González Urrutia's presence in Guatemala, the Guatemala Chapter of the Antifascist International rejected the fact, considering the former candidate of the extreme right as a character who "represents death, terrorism and imperialist interference against the sovereignty of the brother people of Venezuela."
The Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia arrived in Guatemala from the Dominican Republic, as part of a tour he is making through some countries seeking support to promote actions that destabilize the Venezuelan Government, led by President Nicolás Maduro, democratically elected in the last elections of July 28, 2023.
