Bogota, January 27 (RHC)-- The president of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, ordered this Sunday all American citizens who are irregularly in the South American nation to present themselves to immigration service, in response to the decision of the United States to close its visa sector through its embassy in Bogotá.
With a message published on the digital network X, the president said that, in Colombian territory, 15,666 Americans reside illegally and must present themselves to the immigration service to modify their stay, in accordance with Colombian laws.
"American citizens who wish to can be in Colombia, I believe in human freedom," added Petro. He also assured that true libertarians will never attack human freedom.
Prior to the decision to close his visa sector for Colombians, Gustavo Petro prohibited the entry of planes from the U.S. with compatriots deported by the new administration of Donald Trump to national territory.
Meanwhile, the Colombian head of state proposed to the United States the implementation of a protocol for the dignified treatment of migrants before they are received in their country of origin, while the new U.S. administration, led by Donald Trump, is implementing a massive plan of deportations in military planes.
