Quito, February 10 (RHC)-- The National Electoral Council of Ecuador (CNE) announced tonight that if the trends in the counting of votes cast in the presidential elections held this Sunday continue, there will be a second round of voting on April 13th.

At a press conference, the president of the CNE, Diana Atamaint, said that so far more than 66 percent of the electoral records have been processed and that this task will continue until the end of the process.

According to official figures, President Daniel Noboa and the opposition candidate Revolución Ciudadana González lead the preliminary counts of the presidential elections. The CNE website showed that when the data from just over 43 percent of the voting records were loaded, the largest number of votes were concentrated on the current president Daniel Noboa (Acción Democrática), with 45.41 percent, and on the progressive candidate Luisa González (Revolución Ciudadana), with 43.23.

Previously, when 16 percent of the records had been counted, Noboa had 46.53 percent of the votes and González 41.68.

According to this data, the candidate of Revolución Ciudadana continues to get closer to the candidate for reelection.  The counting began by showing a difference in favor of Noboa of more than 12 points.  Then it was reduced to 7 and later to 5, marking a trend.
